BANGKOK, THAILAND: A string of bomb attacks targeting Thailand's crucial tourism industry have killed four people, authorities said Friday, sending authorities scrambling to identify a motive and find the perpetrators.
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O-Cha called for calm and said he did not know who was behind the attacks, while analysts tentatively pointed the finger at Muslim insurgent groups in the south who have for years been fighting the Thai state.
Twin bombs exploded in the upscale resort of Hua Hin late Thursday, killing one woman and wounding more than 20 others, including nine foreign tourists, and were followed by two more on Friday morning that killed another person.
AFP journalists saw injured and bleeding people lying on the pavements shortly after the latest explosions, as emergency workers rushed to the scene and took them away in ambulances.
A further two blasts struck today at Patong Beach resort on the popular tourist island of Phuket, while two more bombs were reported in the southern towns of Trang and Surat Thani, in each of which one person was killed.
"The bombs are an attempt to create chaos and confusion," Prayut told reporters. "We should not make people panic more."
"Why have the bombs occurred as our country is heading towards stability, a better economy and tourism -- and who did it? You have to find out," he added.
The two bombs that went off in Hua Hin on Thursday were hidden in potted plants and went off within 30 minutes of each other in the bar district of the popular beach town.
While small bombings are common in the kingdom during periods of heightened political tension, there have been few such incidents in the past year and it is rare for tourists to be targeted.
Britain and Australia reacted by advising their nationals to avoid public places.
Hua Hin is home to the Klai Kangwon (Far From Worries) summer palace of Thailand's revered royal family, and the firsts blasts came on the eve of Queen Sirikit's 84th birthday and just ahead of the first anniversary of a Bangkok shrine bombing that killed 20.
Hua Hin's district chief, Sutthipong Klai-udom, told AFP that the first bombs were detonated by mobile phone. Staff at local hospitals said German, Italian, Dutch and Austrian nationals were among the wounded.
"It was very shocking. There was a loud noise and police were running everywhere, it was terrible," said Michael Edwards, an Australian tourist staying in a guest house close to where the second bomb detonated.
"I was just surprised that it happened here... now I'm thinking if it's worth staying," he told AFP.
Record tourism
Hua Hin is an upscale resort town about 200 kilometres (125 miles) south of Bangkok, popular with both local and foreign tourists.
The palace there has for years been favoured by King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the world's longest reigning monarch.
The 88-year-old is currently hospitalised in Bangkok for a number of health issues, a source of anxiety for many Thais and a key factor in the kingdom's past decade of political turmoil.
Paul Chambers, an expert on the Thai military, said rebels from the south were prime suspects in the blasts.
"The culprits are most likely Malay-Muslim insurgent groups fighting the Thai state in the deep south," he said.
"The attack on Hua Hin seems like a direct affront at the Kingdom of Thailand. Hua Hin is home to a royal palace... also, the bombing comes on the queen's birthday."
Zachary Abuza, an expert on Southeast Asian militant groups, said that although the southern insurgents had not carried out coordinated attacks for years, "it's not that they haven't or couldn't, it's just been a while".
"Whoever has perpetrated these wants to do serious damage to the Thai economy. That is where the junta is the most vulnerable."
Thailand's military rulers, who seized power in 2014 after a decade of at times violent political unrest, have touted an increase in stability in the kingdom as a major accomplishment of its rule.
The junta on Sunday saw its new version of the constitution approved in a referendum, although the three insurgency-hit provinces rejected the controversial statute.
'Land of Smiles'
Thailand's reputation as the "Land of Smiles" has suffered in recent years from political unrest and a number of high-profile crimes against foreigners.
But tourists continue to flock to its white, sandy beaches and Buddhist temples.
The kingdom is expecting a record 32 million visitors in 2016, with the tourism industry a bright spot in an otherwise lacklustre economy.
The latest blasts came just days before the first anniversary of the last major attack on tourists in Thailand -- an August 17 bomb that killed 20 people, mostly ethnic Chinese tourists.
That blast ripped through a crowded Hindu shrine in the heart of Bangkok and stunned the kingdom as the deadliest assault in recent history.
Two Uighur men from western China have been accused of the attack and are due to go on trial later this month. Both have denied any involvement. Manas media

America’s Next President and the War on Terrorism

The United States of America has been fighting wars in the Middle East for a decade and a half. The price tag for those wars, predominately in Iraq and Afghanistan, has surpassed $1.7 trillion.
The war with radical Islam has not been won, and could continue for decades.
The US attempted to win the war by establishing bases in Afghanistan in partnership with the Afghan government and its first president, Hamid Karzai, and also with Pakistan. Despite attempts to form alliances with both, the US was left with no viable partner in the Middle East.
The opposite is true; both governments are corrupt and have made it virtually impossible for the US to win the war on terrorism. The same may be said of Iraq where as of June 2009 the US military occupied 357 bases, manned by 144,000 troops.
The corrupt government, led at that time by Nouri Maliki, a pro-Iranian Shi’ite, made victory in the war against terrorism equally unattainable.
The question has now become: how can the US fight the next battle in the war on terrorism while not placing the lives of American troops at unnecessary risk? In the weeks before the Persian Gulf War, I flew with General Khalid bin Sultan, the commander of the Saudi Multinational Forces. During our flight, he said to me, “Yesterday almost ended our government. Your troops wanted bacon with their eggs. If bacon had touched our soil, it would be the end of us all.”
How can America possibly win the war on terrorism with such partners? The situation in the Middle East is not improving. Radical Islam has not grown weaker during the Obama presidency. Quite the contrary. Al-Qaida and Islamic State (ISIS) are now active in Lebanon, the Sudan, Yemen, the Sinai, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq and the Gaza Strip. Both are deeply embedded in Syria and Libya. Lebanon has become a refuge for Hezbollah. Iran has now gained sanctions relief that makes it possible for it to fuel and feed its Shi’ite caliphate through its proxies worldwide.
Given the urgency, gravity and necessity of winning the war on terrorism, what are the next steps that should be undertaken by the US? In 2015, US troops were stationed in more than a hundred countries worldwide. A few manned smaller bases, while thousands staffed other, larger installations. About 33,000 forces remain in Afghanistan at a cost of billions of dollars annually.
The military powers that be are concerned that if the troops are withdrawn, Afghanistan will become another Iraq – the country from which ISIS launched its bid for an Islamic caliphate.
The Middle East is an area of great instability. Consider the countries threatened by radical Islamists – Syria, Turkey, Egypt, Yemen, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Gaza, Jordan and more. Syrian refugees have flooded Europe, undermining the stability of such countries as France, Belgium, Germany and, to a degree, Great Britain.
The attacks on the American mainland on September 11, 2001, and the ensuing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan doubled the military budget from about $305 billion that year to a projected almost $713B by the end of the decade. The additional funds were employed to locate troop bases in Iraq and Afghanistan, of course, but also in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and other Muslim countries in Asia. Those alliances are necessary to protect the world’s largest oil reserves.
MILITARY BASES were also established in several Eastern European states – essentially everywhere except in the country most threatened by the rise of Islamic fanaticism: Israel. It is the one ally with which the US has a verifiable alliance. The US has, for decades, assumed the role of global police force, which has strained both its army and its budget.
The demands have not lessened, but increased. The question arises: Does America have the tenacity necessary to fight and win the war on terrorism in the Persian Gulf, no matter how long it takes?
If it ever hopes to succeed in the part of the world that has given us Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, Saddam Hussein, Osama bin Laden, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and now ISIS, the US must reassert itself as the courageous leader of moral clarity in the Western world.
The solution is a US military base in Israel. The Port of Haifa is the ideal location for it. With a strategic base in Israel, the US would be able to accomplish specific objectives: 1) a viable partner with moral clarity; 2) a partner that is already waging a successful war on terrorism. America could also utilize Israel’s knowledge, technology and resources to assist the US effort while at the same time American troops would be in a safe location.
If the US were to establish a base of operations in Israel, what form would it take? There are already huge warehouses maintained by the US in Israel. These buildings are said to be similar to the ones operated in Saudi Arabia, several European and other countries. These were the brainchild of Ariel Sharon, and hold emergency military supplies – medical materials, tanks, armaments and more – that can be dispatched quickly when and where needed.
In the late 1990s, the monetary value of the materiel stored was approximately $500m. That has risen, as of 2015, to $1.8b. The warehouses are reported to be positioned at Ovda and Nevatim Air Force bases, both above and below ground. With a decrease in the use of ground troops in today’s proxy wars, perhaps it is time to consider an expansion of US presence at Israeli air bases.
An agreement of tactical support between Israel and the US was inked by the Reagan administration in 1983. It allowed for joint operations between air and ground forces of the two countries. In 2001, the US and Israeli air forces founded a joint operation at Nevatim; a gigantic leap in cementing the relationship between the two countries. The Port of Haifa has been used as a quasi- home base for the US Sixth Fleet, under the guise of a repair facility.
Perhaps the time has come to establish a bona fide US naval base at the Port of Haifa. This is especially true now that both Iranian and Russian ships have paraded through the Mediterranean Sea. Russian leader Vladimir Putin and Iranian Ayatollah Ali Khamenei have made it glaringly evident that they will not be denied entrance wherever they wish to dispatch their navies. In 2015, China and Russia held joint naval exercises in the area.
An overt US naval presence along the coast of Israel would allow for a permanent and overt naval deployment along Israel’s coast, serving the interests of America for a more rapid response to growing challenges presented by Islamic radicals situated around Israel.
Despite the warehousing facilities, the joint cooperation between their air forces and the role of the Port of Haifa in US-Israeli relations, Israel remains adamant that she will defend her people and her land independent of all foreign troops. This innate opposition of the Israeli government would have to be overcome.
The Israelis have never asked other countries to endanger the lives of their military personnel to defend the Jewish people. As it now stands, Israel has only to be concerned with the safety and security of its own people and not the lives of foreign troops stationed on Israeli soil.
Currently, government leaders of both the US and Israel are discussing a new MOU (memorandum of understanding) that determines how much defense aid will be allotted to Israel over the next decade. (The current MOU ends in 2018.) The Israeli government is asking for $10B, more than is allowed under the current agreement, billions more than the Obama administration is willing to consider. Israel is seeking a guarantee that missile defense projects so vital to that country’s security will continue to be funded.

ਇਥੇ ਹਲਕੇ ਵਿਚ ਕੈਪਟਨ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਡਿਪਟੀ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਸੁਖਬੀਰ ਬਾਦਲ ਹਰ ਗੱਲ ਦਾ ਦੋਸ਼ ਆਈ.ਐਸ.ਆਈ 'ਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁੱਟ ਸਕਦੇ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸੁਖਬੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਵਾਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਪਤਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਆਈ.ਐਸ.ਆਈ ਕੀ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇਸਦੇ ਨਾਪਾਕਿ ਇਰਾਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕਣ ਲਈ ਕੀ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹੋ। ਸਿਰਫ ਛਾਤੀ ਪਿੱਟਣ ਤੇ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ 'ਤੇ ਦੋਸ਼ ਲਗਾਉਣ ਨਾਲ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ।
ਕੈਪਟਨ ਅਮਰਿੰਦਰ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਬਰਗਾੜੀ 'ਚ ਵਾਪਰੀ ਘਟਨਾ, ਜਿਥੇ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਬੇਅਦਬੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਲੁਧਿਆਣਾ 'ਚ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਗੀਤਾ ਦੀ ਬੇਅਦਬੀ ਤੇ ਮਲੇਰਕੋਟਲਾ 'ਚ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਕੁਰਾਨ ਦੀ ਬੇਅਦਬੀ ਹੋਈ ਅਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਆਰ.ਐਸ.ਐਸ ਲੀਡਰ 'ਤੇ ਹਮਲਾ, ਸੱਭ ਇਕ ਪੈਟਰਨ ਵੱਲ ਇਸ਼ਾਰਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ 'ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਹਿੱਤਾਂ ਖਾਤਿਰ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੰਡਣ ਲਈ ਜਾਣਬੁਝ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਸੱਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਵਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਦੋਸ਼ ਲਗਾਇਆ।
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਚੇਤਾਵਨੀ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਖਤਰਨਾਕ ਖੇਡ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਪੰਜਾਬ 'ਚ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਣ ਦੇਵੇਗੀ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਇਕ ਹੋਰ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਦਾ ਦੌਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਹਿਣ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ। ਜੇ ਅਜਿਹੀਆਂ ਘਟਨਾਵਾਂ ਜ਼ਾਰੀ ਰਹਿਣ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ, ਤਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਹੋਰ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਖਿਸਕ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ ਤੇ ਉਦਯੋਗ ਤੇ ਨਿਵੇਸ਼ ਇਥੇ ਆਉਣ ਤੋਂ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਹੱਟਣਗੇ।
ਜਦਕਿ ਐਚ.ਐਸ ਫੁਲਕਾ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਖਿਲਾਫ ਮਾਨ ਹਾਨੀ ਦਾ ਕੇਸ ਦਾਇਰ ਕਰਨ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਧਮਕੀ ਬਾਰੇ ਕੈਪਟਨ ਅਮਰਿੰਦਰ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਵਾਗਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਦੁਹਰਾਇਆ ਕਿ ਫੂਲਕਾ ਨੇ ਦੰਗਾ ਪੀੜਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੇਸਾਂ ਲਈ ਪੈਸੇ ਲਏ ਸਨ। ਉਨ੍ਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਸਿੱਖ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕ ਕਮੇਟੀ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਪਰਮਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਰਨਾ ਵੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਦਾਇਗੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ।
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਫੂਲਕਾ ਨੇ ਦੰਗਾ ਪੀੜਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੇਸਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੇਸ਼ੀ ਲਈ ਪੈਸੇ ਲਏ ਸਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਫੂਲਕਾ ਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਣ ਲਈ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਕਿਥੋਂ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ਼ ਇਲਾਕਿਆਂ 'ਚ ਸ਼ਾਨਦਾਰ ਘਰ ਤੇ ਦਫਤਰ ਲਈ ਪੈਸੇ ਲਿਆਏ ਹਨ, ਜੇ ਉਹ ਹੋਰ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ। (ਦੰਗਾ ਪੀੜਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਲਈ ਪੈਰਵੀ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ)
ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹਲਕੇ ਵਿਚ ਕੈਪਟਨ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਸਵਾਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਜਵਾਬ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸ਼ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ 'ਚ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ 'ਤੇ ਰੋਕ ਲਗਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਸਲਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਗੈਰ ਰਜਾਮੰਦੀ ਦਿਖਾਈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ 'ਚ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ 'ਤੇ ਰੋਕ ਸੂਬੇ ਲਈ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਆਰਥਿਕ ਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਾਸਨਿਕ ਪੱਧਰ 'ਤੇ ਉਚਿਤ ਹੈ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਹਾਲਾਤਾਂ 'ਚ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ 'ਤੇ ਰੋਕ ਲਗਾ ਕੇ ਪੈਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਾਲੀ ਘਾਟਾ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਹਿਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ, ਸ਼ਰਾਬ 'ਤੇ ਰੋਕ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡੇ ਪੱਧਰ 'ਤੇ ਤਸਕਰੀ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ 'ਚ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆਈ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਰੋਕ ਦੇ ਉਦੇਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਖਤਮ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਬਾਦਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਰੇਤ ਖੁਦਾਈ, ਟ੍ਰਾਂਸਪੋਰਟ ਤੇ ਕੇਬਲ ਆਪ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰੋਬਾਰ ਉਪਰ ਏਕਾਧਿਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਖਤਮ ਕਰੇਗੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਆਪਣੀ ਰੇਤ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਚਣ ਲਈ ਅਜ਼ਾਦ ਹੋਣਗੇ ਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ੋਸ਼ਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕੇਗਾ। ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ, ਬੇਰੁਜ਼ਗਾਰ ਨੌਜ਼ਵਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੂਟਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਪਰਮਿਟ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਜਾਣਗੇ ਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੱਸਾਂ ਖ੍ਰੀਦਣ ਲਈ ਅਸਾਨ ਲੋਨ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਜਾਣਗੇ।
ਇਸ ਦੌਰਾਨ, ਕੈਪਟਨ ਅਮਰਿੰਦਰ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਐਲਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਫੌਜ਼ੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਟੋਲ ਟੈਕਸ ਭਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਛੋਟ ਦੇਵੇਗੀ।
ਜਦਕਿ ਆਟਾ-ਦਾਲ ਸਕੀਮ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਇਕ ਸਵਾਲ ਦੇ ਜਵਾਬ 'ਚ ਕੈਪਟਨ ਅਮਰਿੰਦਰ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਸਕੀਮ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਗੇ ਵੀ ਜ਼ਾਰੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ ਤੇ ਇਸ 'ਚ ਹੋਰ ਸੁਧਾਰ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾਣਗੇ। ਉਹ ਵਿਅਕਤੀਗਤ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਪੁਖਤਾ ਕਰਨਗੇ ਕਿ ਕੁਆਲਿਟੀ ਨੂੰ ਬਣਾਏ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਜਾਵੇ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ, ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਆਟਾ ਦਾਲ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਖੰਡ ਤੇ ਚਾਹ ਵੀ ਦੇਵੇਗੀ। ਇਹ ਸਕੀਮ ਜ਼ਾਰੀ ਰੱਖੇ ਜਾਣ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਕੀਮਤ 'ਤੇ ਬੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਕੈਪਟਨ ਅਮਰਿੰਦਰ ਨੇ ਬਾਅਦ 'ਚ ਸ਼ਾਮ ਚੌਰਾਸੀ ਵਿਧਾਨ ਸਭਾ ਹਲਕੇ 'ਤੇ ਇਕ ਭਰਵੀਂ ਵਰਕਰ ਮੀਟਿੰਗ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਬੋਧਨ ਵੀ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਅਕਾਲੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਉਲਟੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋ ਚੁੱਕੀ ਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਖਾੜ ਸੁੱਟਣ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਬਣਾ ਬੈਠੇ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਮ ਆਦਮੀ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਦੇ ਗੁੰਮਰਾਹ ਕੁੰਨ ਵਾਅਦਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਬੱਚਣ ਦੀ ਚੇਤਾਵਨੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਖਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਆਪ ਨੇ ਦਿੱਲੀ 'ਚ ਕੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ, ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤ ਰਜਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਾਜਵਾ, ਸੰਤੋਸ਼ ਚੌਧਰੀ, ਫਤਹਿ ਜੰਗ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਾਜਵਾ, ਪਵਨ ਆਦੀਆ, ਰਜਨੀਸ਼ ਬੱਬੀ, ਸੁੰਦਰ ਸ਼ਾਮ ਅਰੋੜਾ ਵੀ ਮੌਜ਼ੂਦ ਰਹੇ।
HOSHIARPUR, August 11: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh today blamed the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for the spate of violent incidents in the state, including the attack on state RSS vice president, saying he (Mr Badal) was deliberately trying to create fear and polarise people along communal lines to make political capital out of it.
Capt Amarinder also expressed serious concern over the rising incidents of gang-wars in Punjab. He said, these gangs were being patronised by Sukhbir Badal as he wanted to use these gangs in the elections.
Talking to reporters along the sidelines of the ‘Halqe vich Captain’ programme, here today, he also said that the Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal cannot pass off everything on the ISI. “We all know what ISI is up to, but what are you doing to stop it from executing its nefarious designs”, he asked Sukhbir, while adding, “mere breast beating and blaming them will not solve any problem and you need to act”.
Capt Amarinder maintained that there was a consistent pattern in what happened in Bargadi, where Guru Granth Sahab was desecrated, followed by the desecration of Gita in Ludhiana and the desecration of Quran in Malerkotla. “And then came the attack on the RSS leader”, he pointed out, while alleging that the Chief Minister was deliberately orchestrating all this to polarise people for vested partisan interests.
Warning that this was a dangerous game, the PCC president said, the Congress will not let that happen as Punjab cannot afford another dark era. He said, if such things continue to happen, Punjab will further slide down as otherwise also the industry and investors were reluctant to come here.
Responding to HS Phoolka’s threat of filing a defamation suit against him, Capt Amarinder said, he was welcome to do that. He reiterated that Phoolka had charged money for the cases of the riot victims. He said, former Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Managing Committee president Paramjit Singh Sarna also used to pay him.
Reiterating that Phoolka charged for pleading the riot victims cases, he said, let him (Phoolka) explain as from where did he get the money to have palatial house and office in posh localities of Delhi as he has not been doing anything else (other than pleading the riot victims cases).
Earlier responding to questions during the ‘Halqe vich Captain’ programme, the PCC president disagreed with the suggestion of banning liquor in Punjab. “The liquor ban in Punjab is neither economically viable nor administratively feasible”, he said, while adding, Punjab at this stage cannot afford loss of revenue on account of the ban. Besides, he said, liquor ban has always resulted in massive smuggling that defeats the very purpose of the ban.
He said, the Congress government will break the monopoly of Badals on business of sand mining, transport and cable operations. He said, the farmers will be free to sell off their sand and nobody will be allowed to exploit them. Similarly, he added, route permits will be provided to unemployed youth and they will also be provided soft loans to buy buses.
Replying to a question on aata-daal scheme, Capt Amarinder said, that the scheme will continue and it will be further improved. He said, he will personally ensure that the quality is maintained. Besides, he added, the Congress government will also provide sugar and tea along with aata-daal. He said, the scheme will need to be continued and it cannot be stopped at any cost.
Capt Amarinder later addressed a largely attended workers meeting of the Sham Churasi assembly segment. February 17th marks the fifth anniversary of the Libyan uprising which brought an end to Ghaddafi’s dictatorial regime. During his 42 years-rule, Ghaddafi turned a nation with generous oil wealth into one mired in corruption and infrastructure decay. Fear was the regime’s tool to suppress opposition and maintain power. Those who opposed were imprisoned or exiled, or killed.
Today Libya is in worse shape than ever before. Oil production is near a halt at a time when prices are at an all-time low; the nation is practically bankrupt; inflation has spawned a thriving black market; families live in fear; and extremism is on the rise prompting some Western nations to consider military intervention.
Citizens who supported the uprising five years ago wish it never happened. Since then, unqualified opportunists became corrupt leaders. Rule is now divided among illegitimate factions supported by local militia; and Libyans are more polarized than ever.
In this anniversary, I wish and pray that we Libyans find the goodness in our hearts to restore trust among us to rebuild the nation for future generations.
I am proud of my father for risking his life to educate the youth as one of the last remaining university professors and help rebuild Libya but I pray for my family's safety and return.

American-led airplanes, in their attempts to bomb ISIS
Do you wish to understand the privileges and perks that are afforded to the world's sole superpower? Would you like to see a glimpse of the power of Western supremacy?
A few days ago, American-led airplanes, in their attempts to bomb ISIS strongholds, 'accidentally' killed over two hundred civilians in villages in Northern Syria (scores of whom were, of course, children).
1) Because Syrian lives specifically, and brown/black/
[Compare and contrast with the news coverage given of *any* death of a Western civilian at the hands of a non-Western perpetrator].
2) Because media are more interested in Western lives, not a *single* journalist has been able to report even the exact quantity of people killed, much less their names and backgrounds and photos.
[Contrast this to *any* mass killing on Western soil, such as the recent one in Nice, where each and every victim is humanized, and their family shown grieving].
3) Because the conversation is controlled by entities on this side of the Atlantic, no other Western entity (or citizen) needs to explain its stance, or apologize, or in any way be expected to condemn or denounce or clarify its position on the actions of its own government who, theoretically at least, are supposed to be held in check by its citizens.
[Contrast this to every single time a radical Muslim goes berserk: each and every mosque, and preacher, and Shaykh, and average Muslim, is somehow expected to condemn and clarify that they are against the actions of another person who shares their faith but whom they are not even legally responsible for].
4) Because apparently only Western citizens care about their children and worry about their future, we all understand and can conceptualize why the Far Right, and Trump-like figures, and the xenophobia exemplified by Brexit, and the tightening of citizenship laws in Europe, and the climate of fear and paranoia, are taking place. Imagine: barely 0.000001 % of its citizens have been killed in its lands in attacks by 'radical Muslims', and we can all understand the (over) reaction of Western countries and its citizens.
[Contrast this to entire lands and nations that have been destroyed, such as Iraq, or never allowed to develop, such as Afghanistan, or been allowed and abetted to descend to civil war and genocide, such as Syria, or controlled by propped-up dictators, such as most countries in the Third World. Upwards of 50 % of populations are displaced; every family in some of these lands has members that have been killed or harmed by Western invasions; the prosperity and potential of *every* member of that region is impaired directly or indirectly by policies decided by the IMF and Western nations; and yet we are not allowed to contextualize the rise of a radical reaction].
Much more can be said, and the disparate reactions contrasted. But never forget that we are - all of us - impacted by the power and influence of others. Whom to love; whom to humanize, whom to pity; whom to prioritize; whom to write hashtags for and about; whom to condemn and when.
That is why it is only One Being, the Controller and Knower of All, who is Infinitely Just and who shall give each person his or her due, in reward or in punishment, even if we as humans do not and cannot.

Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is a jihadist group in the Middle East. In its self-proclaimed status as a caliphate, it claims religious authority over all Muslims across the world and aspires to bring most of the Muslim-inhabited regions of the world under its political control beginning with Iraq, Syria and other territories in the Levant region which include Jordan, Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, Cyprus and part of southern Turkey.
Dr. Bilveer Singh teaches and researches on topics related to International security and Comparative Politics. His research area includes understanding the sources of Islamist Radicalism and Violence in Southeast Asia. Besides, he was also a resource person to the Parliamentary Committee on Defence and Foreign Affairs of Singapore, he is a member of Singapore's Council on Security and Cooperation Asia-Pacific.
